Domka FIFA World Cup 2015
Wisconsin FIFA Referee Selected for Women’s World Cup
The Wisconsin Soccer Referee Development Program is proud to announce that our own Margaret Domka, FIFA Referee, has been selected to officiate at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The 2015 Women’s World Cup will be held in June and July in six Canadian cities, and will be comprised of 52 matches.
Margaret was the only US Referee or Assistant Referee selected to participate in this prestigious international event.
Margaret started refereeing in 1996, in her hometown of Stevens Point. She started not with a dream, but just to make a little money. Oh, how far she has risen. She steadily progressed through the referee ranks, reaching FIFA status in 2009.
She readily admits that the achievement of a FIFA badge was not easy, and at times, was difficult and disappointing. She humbly describes the euphoria of the highest peaks in both her referee level and the level of games assigned, but also the deepest of valleys or disappointments of not always succeeding, or having the best game, or obtaining the coveted assignment.
Like most other things in life, Margaret’s achievements required perseverance, and a LOT of hard work. And, a lot of constructive and self-criticism. She also received much help from others in the referee community and her personal life. Her continued rise required many “gut checks” – “do I want to continue to do this?” “I either get better, or try another avocation!”
Margaret continued to work, subjected herself to self-criticism, and listened to the judgment and recommendations of others. She continued to improve her fitness, her work rate, positioning, interpretation and application of the Laws of the Game, and communicate with her team members, all to make a positive impact on the games she referees.
Please help us celebrate Margaret’s successes and achievements by going to watch one of her games this summer, or by watching one, or several, on TV.
Margaret has and will continue to be an inspiration to Wisconsin referees, and we hope that one or two that she has inspired, will be able to follow in her shoes, and someday wear a FIFA badge, and referee on the world’s largest stage.
Those valleys Margaret endured makes the peaks she has achieved, and this particular peak, that much more satisfying. Have a great series of games this summer, Margaret.
